Yet another reason not to cut library funding… Students are reading and remixing books like Toni Morrison’s A Mercy on their own time with students across the city to foster learning, teamwork,  and media production. Seems like a crime to cut back on these types of opportunities. #theSOULmovement

I love my libraries
Please do not neglect my libraries.  Though the schools have been slaughtered (FUND CPS!) , but learning hasn’t stopped.  The library is my school as it sparks curiosity and provides fuel to keep it burning as I continue learning.  The library is a haven of knowledge so sacred to this city and deserving of  support.  Please do not neglect my libraries.

How Service at the Chicago Public Library Will...
Chicago’s 2012 Proposed Budget will have dire consequences for the Chicago Public Library, library users, and city residents if passed… Eliminating 32% of the Library workforce will cause library closings, delays in receiving ordered books, and inadequate customer service because the remaining decimated staff will only have time to shelve and maintain material flow instead of...

Save Our Urban Libraries
Do you or someone you know think that libraries are necessary any more? According to many people, the internet and ebooks have killed us off.  For that to be true all of the following things must have happened! This is great for our city and our society in general! Everyone can afford an ebook reader. Everyone can afford and has a computer. Everyone can afford broadband internet access. High speed...

Sun-Times analysis: Who will be hit by Emanuel’s...
Emanuel has talked about reducing library hours on Monday and Friday mornings. But, that does not begin to explain the 363 job cuts he has made there. Sixty librarians, 59 library clerks and all of the remaining “pages” — workers charged with re-shelving books — would be cut. In 2009, then-Mayor Richard M. Daley laid off 120 library pages, nearly half the complement. When books piled up because...
